Scenes from the Souq, Aleppo, Syria (April 18-20, 2008)

A typical souq scene
Men deftly twirl pastry dough; the dough will later be topped with ground lamb and baked like mini pizzas
A boy stands in front of his father's meat shop. Although the butchers do tend to be clustered together, there's no vegetarian section of the souq: intestines, heads and unidentifiable animal parts may be encountered around any corner.
Coffee, tea and spices for sale
Carpets galore
A boy sells fresh almonds and watermelon
